This silent clock was made in London, England and signed by ‘Frodsham, Gracechurch Street, London’. The ebonized case is constructed with front and back doors and with brass hinged carrying handle. The cornice with reeded structure and curling corners supporting thick beveled glazed panels to the sides and top, gadrooned base with carved plinth. The dial is a rectangular silvered plate (11 cm, 4 ¼ inch) inscribed with Roman numerals behind an angled bezel. The fine 8-day mechanism consists of a single chain driven fusee movement with anchor escapement and T bar pendulum suspension. The case is 28 cm. (11 inch) high. The eminent clockmaker John Frodsham (1785 – 1849) become a member (freeman) of the Clockmakers Company in 1822 and a livery of the Clockmakers Association in 1830. His son Henry John joined the business (Frodsham & Son) in 1838. This helps to date the clock to about 1830.
