Traveling Silver Clock and Barometer made in London in 1928. The Folding case and plate are fully hallmarked. The 8 day mechanical clock and the aneroid barometer are Swiss made, both are mounted on a silver hinged plate. The hallmarks are the Lion passant the Leopard (London) a small n for 1928 and the the makers' mark for Mappin & Webb. Jonathan Mappin opened his first silversmith workshop in Sheffield in 1774. In 1849 the first store in London opened. In 1858 John Mappin invited his brother-in-law, George Webb to join him thus creating the company of Mappin and Webb.
