Map Description: The map shows the ancient boundaries and territories of the 12 tribes of Israel. These regions are individually hand-colored on the east and west side of the River Jordan. The ancient Roman divisions: Judea, Samaria, Galilee, Phoenicia (Present Day Lebanon), Perea (Present Day Jordan) and Decapolis (Present Day Syria), are emphasized. Biblical Jewish settlements and Roman towns and villages are marked. Scale: about 17 miles to an inch. No foxing or tearing. John Tallis was born in 1815/6. He opened his company which published views, maps and atlases in London from roughly 1838. In 1842 his brother Frederick joined the company. The company was dissolved in 1851.
