This is a bent-shaft early type iron tooth key with molded baluster stem and original turned Ivory handle. The working end of the key consists of a bolster and a hinged semicircular claw . The bolster is stiated to prevent slippage from gingival tissue. To extract a tooth, the bolster was placed against the root of the tooth and the claw over the crown. The key was then turned until the tooth was dislocated and extracted. Tooth key length: 12 cm (4.7 inches). It is signed Whitford on the stem.
