3 Taxiphote Boxes with 75 Glass Verascope Stereo Views

75 glass Verascope slides in 3 plastic Taxiphote boxes. The pictures are of boats (including war ships), Swiss mountain scenes, people and children. Of the 75, only 5 have some small degree of breakage. All can be viewed with a stereoscope, with little change to the 3D effect. The vistascope camera was invented by Jules Richard (1848-1930). In 1882 he formed a partnership with his younger brother Max, as Richard Frères in 1893 the Verascope was patented, and remained in production until the 1930s. The first version of the Taxiphote, the viewer to see the Verascope slides, was patented in 1899. The Taxiphote is a large wood cabinet which incorporates various clever devices. By depressing a lever, plates could be lifted one by one from the movable, slotted magazine into view between the eyepiece and a ground-glass screen built to allow light in since Verascope photographs are always transparencies.
