An Early 19th Century Gilt Brass Monocular. Made in 1803 by Adams in London. This unique and special monocular is made with gilt brass and is signed around the first of two draws. The tube is a concave molded and ebonized body, with a large objective lens - 4.4 cm (1.75 inch), in the original red silk lined traveling case. The case height is 6.5 cm. (2 ½ inch). Dudley Adams (1762 – 1830) was the optician to H.R.H. the prince of Wales, and worked at No. 60 Fleet Street London from about 1790 until 1817.
