Made by Watkins & Hill, Opticians, 5 Charing Cross, London. The monocular with 1.5-inch objective lens and two draws with knurled eyepiece, in a shaped case with the Watkins & Hill label in the silk lined interior. The case is 7cm (2.75 inches.) high. Francis Watkins and William Hill were working from 5 Charing Cross, London between 1822 and 1856, which helps to date the monocular to circa 1850.
