This instrument was made by Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Rochester N.Y. The mirror, lift-up lens and prism unit, filter system, clamping ring, hinges, and screws are in good condition. Including with the item is a box to hold the Camera Lucida and the original instruction on how to use the Abbe Camera Lucida. An eyepiece tube and ocular lens shown in the picture for demonstration purposes, are also included! This type of Camera Lucida was invented by Abbe in the mid 1870s before photography through a microscope became easy. Prof. Ernst Abbe (1840-1905) Brilliant and innovative lens designer becomes the sole owner of Zeiss Optical Works in 1888.
