Polar Planimeter with adjustable arms by R. Reiss, Germany.

Item#: SCI395

SOLD

This special type Planimeter was made in Germany by Robert Reiss for calculating the surface area of an irregular shape. The instrument consists of three parts: An adjustable pole weight with steel pin that acts as a steady pivot, an adjustable tracer arm with a pointer and a carriage with a measuring wheel. The pole weight is connected via a hinge to the carriage. Moving the tracer pointer along the borders of the shape will cause the carriage wheel to rotate. The net roll of the wheel is proportional to the area of the shape and can be read from the calibrated scale. The Planimeter No. 9508 was made by the German Precision Instrument Company "Robert Reiss GmbH" located in Bad Liebenwerda and founded in 1882. Comes with an original leather covered box and a calibration table.
