A Set of Stereocards By Underwood & Underwood 1895-1904. Underwood & Underwood began publishing stereographs in 1890 and established an educational unit in 1895. Around 1900 they introduced boxed sets, with specific themes such as education, religion, and travel, depicting tourist areas of the world. This set is called ‘Palestine Through the Stereoscope’ and the cards (copyrighted 1895-1904) are inserted in a twin book-like box (labeled volume I and II). Each card includes two Albumen prints photographed with a stereo-camera, a short description of the site and the company’s logo. Among the many places photographed are: Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the River Jordan, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. The box includes 93 of the original 100 stereocards
