This is a reflector type telescoping Ear Trumpet (or Ear Horn) with original black oxidized finish over the brass. It was hoped that the black finish would make the hearing trumpet less conspicuous against dark clothing worn by the user. This Victorian hearing aid was made and signed by Hawksley, Oxford St., London. T. Hawksley's was the acoustical instrument maker to the principal aurists in England, Guy's and St. George's Hospitals. His company was established in 1869. Reference: T. Hawksley.
