A 19th Century American Brass And Steel Camera Lucida. This is the best and most sophisticated camera lucida in our collection. It is made from solid brass parts and steel reenforcements. This rare camera lucida consists of a special four-sided wide angled prism (19 mm), a prism holder with large viewing window, two filter lenses, a three stage telescoping extension rods and a table clamp with fixating angle screw. Although with no maker’s name, it was built with high precision and meticulous details. This camera lucida comes in its original velvet and silk lined black box (23 X 5 cm). Prismatic optical drawing aids were used extensively by famous portrait drawing artists during the renaissance period and up to the invention of photography.
