18th Century Brass Back Amputation Saw by Evans & Co.

Item#: MET89

SOLD

This is a 12.5 cm (5 inch) orthopedic finger saw made by Evans & Co. London. This brass back saw has a turned rosewood handle, which connects to the saw blade with a brass collar. The fact that the handle is not steel tells us that sterilization was not yet appreciated. Also, the fact that the handle is round, and not checked or curved in anyway, points us to the 18th century. Evans & Co. operated out of London for over 200 years. Their main shop was in Cheapside on Old Change Rd.
