A Wellsworth Aluminum spectacle case from the American Optical Company. The snap shut case is lined ain leather and is in near mint condition. The case is in its original box. The American Optical Company was stated by William Beecher. He opened his first shop in South ridge Massachusetts in 1826. Beecher started manufacturing silver spectacles in 1833. Beecher invented the machinery to make steel frame spectacles in the US in 1843. The American Optical Company was formed officially in 1869. By the 1880s the company was making their own lenses. In 1905 it opened a London office and by 1923 they had 114 branches all over the USA. The case is 10.5 cm long (4 inches)
