This is a 1/4 plate brassbound mahogany camera manufactured by J. Lancaster & Son's, Birmingham, England in 1897. The Folding Instantograph uses the front door for a bed on which to extend the front lens. The f8 Lancaster Patent landscape lens is equipped with a patent adjustable diaphragms and aperture scale. This was one of the earliest production lenses sold with an iris diaphragm introduced 1886. The tapered bellows is made of dark brown leather and could be adjusted by rack-work. The camera comes with one fitted dark slide ¼ plate. All brass parts with original lacquer finish throughout.
