A museum quality Shagreen covered pocket wooden lancet case (7 cm) with silver rims and cartouche containing a thumb lancet. Thumb lancets were standard equipment for physicians who made house calls and were used for bloodletting. Lancets were carried individually, but more commonly in a lancet case. This special thumb lancet is covered with mother of pearl shells and signed by the maker: McLeod. The cartouche is engraved with: M. Jameson, R.A., which stands for ‘Royal Artillery’.
