This is an 8-piece drawing instruments set in fitted mahogany case. The instruments made from brass, steel and bone handles. The combined rule and compass is made of boxwood. Pasted to the inside cover is a presentation certificate stating: ‘Bradford Technical College, Day School Department. Prize Awarded to Harry Priestly, Awarded by the council for successes obtained during the year 1884.’ This certificate helps to date the set to c. 1880. W.H. Harling was a mathematical instrument maker that worked from various addresses in London: 117 Moorgate, Hatton Garden and 47 Finsbury Pavement. In 1964 the company was bought by Blundell Rules Limited (BRL) to create the Blundell-Harling (BH) Ltd Company.
